For preparing for the Certified Project Management Associate (IPMA Level-D) certification exam, the PMAC recommends The Project Manager's Portable Handbook by David I. Cleland and Lewis R. Ireland, published by McGraw-Hill. Previously, PMAC had recommended the 2nd edition of this book; however, the publisher has just released the 3rd revised edition of this book, with a 2011 copyright date.
Please use the new version of this book for your CPMA/IPMA Level-D exam prep studies.
On a limited-time trial basis, the PMAC is allowing members to upgrade their PMP certification from PMI to an internationally-registered IPMA Level-D certification without writing the IPMA-D exam. Candidates will have to submit a copy of their PMP and write a short essay on two of the 26 other PM competence elements not covered by PMI's PMP exam.
This is a trial offer, and we will only accept a limited number of applicants, so please take advantage early.

The Project Management Association of Canada wishes to recognize the top project managers in our profession.
Fellowship in the association recognizes those who have made a significant contribution to the development of the art and science of project, programme or portfolio management, either as a practitioner, teacher, or researcher. It is the highest level of membership awarded by the association and carries with it the right to use the post nominal letters FPMAC, Fellow of the Project Management Association of Canada.
All applications for fellowship are considered by the PMAC Board of Directors. Fellowship is normally awarded to individuals who have been a regular member of the association for at least five years, although exceptions are being made at this time for those who have been members in good standing for at least the past two years. To be considered by the Board of Directors for fellowship, please review the rules and procedures on our PMAC Fellowship Program page.
The Certification Body of the Project Management Association of Canada is pleased to recognize Sei Eun (Sarah) Chun, PMP, Cert.APM as being the first person to achieve a perfect score on the Certified Agile Project Manager (Cert.APM) exam. Ms. Chun wrote the exam on 21 July 2010 at the University of Toronto's Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science after the completion of the university's Agile Project Management course.
Congratulations to Sarah on her accomplishment!
PMI is considering producing a new agile project management certification. Their current consultation process has selected individuals being asked to complete an online survey where they are asked about their interest in such a certification and how that certification program might be structured. One of the options being considered is having the Project Management Association of Canada's Certified Agile Project Manager (Cert.APM) qualification as a pre-requisite.
The consultation process is nearly over -- surveys must be completed by 23 July 2010. For those interested, here is the link:

The PMAC is happy to announce that 14 new project managers have completed their Agile Project Manager certification in July. We welcome them to the association and wish them well on their ongoing development of PM competence.

On behalf of the PMAC Executive Committee, Morley Selver, PMAC Secretary and Chair of the PMAC Certification Body granted accreditation status to a new course that would meet the education requirements to write the PMAC Certified Agile Project Manager exam. The new course "Agile PM Bootcamp for Experienced Scrum Masters" is a one-day intense workshop intended to bridge the standard training CSMs receive and the contents of the other accredited agile project manager courses.
Certified Scrum Masters normally receive 2 days of training. The PMAC Cert.APM exam tests against standard Scrum knowledge, but the exam goes further into the practical management of Scrum projects within large organizations. Recognizing the value in the existing CSM courses, PMAC has allowed an alternate path for Cert.APM exam candidates who already hold their CSM qualification -- these candidates would be able to take the accredited 1-day upgrade workshop instead of a regular 3-day course.
PMAC hopes that, by accrediting this alternate education path, more Scrum Masters will seek further project management training in how to manage Scrum projects in complex organizational environments, such as in large corporations, government, and highly-regulated scenarios. By providing a means of recognizing those who have learned practical techniques for managing Scrum projects in complex environments, PMAC hopes to further the acceptance of Scrum and agile project management methods in the workplace.
The first session of this new course "Agile PM Bootcamp for Experienced Scrum Masters" will be schedule this fall, on Friday, September 10th in Toronto in conjunction with the 2010 PMAC Annual General Meeting. Those who complete the course can sit the Certified Agile Project Manager exam on Saturday, December 11 at the PMAC AGM.
