1st Year Anniversary of PMAC

March 8, 2010 by bpasian

bpasian's picture

Where has a year gone? In the last 12 months, your national PM association has grown in every measurable way. More members! More training and certification opportunities! A growing Young Crew. And greater awareness on the international stage.

Beyond all of that progress - the success of PMAC lies with you -- our individual members. With that in mind, I'd like to take this opportunity to launch a new initiative -- individual profiles of our members. Give yourselves the oppportunity to speak about any PM issue of interest - including yourself!

Get in touch...look forward to hearing from you,

Bev Pasian

IPMA Level A, B, C and D Certifications Now Available in Canada

PMAC is pleased to announce that effective immediately it is able to offer IPMA certifications in Canada at all four competency levels.

At our 2009 Annual General Meeting, IPMA presented accreditations to five of our members who have been accepted as First Assessors -- those whom IPMA has approved as qualified to perform IPMA competency assessments at all four levels (A through D). Two of the First Assessors, Kevin Aguanno and Alex Jalalian, have been assessors for other IPMA member associations and have performed assessments in the past, so are already fully trained on IPMA procedures. The remaining three First Assessors will be trained by a First Foreign Assessor who has been assigned by the IPMA Certification Validation Management Board (CVMB). His name is Werner Schmehr, and he is a member of the CVMB and also the Managing Director of German certification body.

While we are waiting for the rest of the First Assessors have been trained, Kevin Aguanno and Alex Jalalian are ready to provide assessments for candidates. If you are interested in IPMA competence certification, please contact the PMAC Certification Body Operating Committee (certification@pmac-ampc.ca.

Finally, we would like to announce that our first IPMA Level-D candidate was certified on 5 December, 2009. Future IPMA Level-D certification exams are scheduled across Canada throughout 2010. An exam schedule can be found near the bottom of our competency certification page.

List of PMAC Members with IPMA Certifications

December 9, 2009 by pmacwebmaster

We are pleased to announce that we are now maintaining a public directory of PMAC members who hold IPMA competence-based certifications at one of the four levels (Level A through Level D).

Currently on the list are our five First Assessors, certified directly by IPMA, who will be following the IPMA certification rules and procedures to begin IPMA certifications within Canada. These First Assessors are qualified to perform assessments at all four levels of certification.

Also on the list is our first member to pass our IPMA Level D exam. Congratulations to Arek Bielawski for the unique honour of being the first person to obtain an IPMA certification IN CANADA!

The other day, I was challenged by a client to provide a description of why they still needed a PM at the end of their project. To understand their question, and my response, you need a bit of background information first.

PM Tips - Being Proactive

November 24, 2009 by morley

This will be a series of project management tips that I have learned over my 30 plus years of doing industrial project management. You will not find these tips out there in the PM world. The intent is to help keep you out of trouble as it is much easier to get into trouble than it is to get out. These are just an example of some of the tips that I provide in my PM workshops.

The first tip I want to talk about is to treat all your projects as if they will end up in a legal court case. This applies to contractors and vendors. When you first start a project everyone is excited and happy as this will be the best project ever. You have a working relation ship with your contractor(s) and the process starts smoothly. However, it doesn’t take much for the project to turn sour and animosity set in. Not all projects turn out this way, but you can not predict the future so you have to be prepared.
